This week we are showcasing the lovely Kurston Brody, owner and designer of ~ Serenity Style ~. Kurston’s shop has been here for over a year now and is tucked between Primal Arts Tattoo’s, Awesome Designs and Calla Hair. The lime green store is home to ~ Serenity Style ~.
We took a few minutes to ask Kurston a few questions.
Where do you get your inspiration to design?
Kurston Brody: Everywhere! From a shirt I see my daughter wearing to a cool color on a tree in my backyard.
What is the number one thing you love about Second Life?
Kurston Brody: Getting to spend time with my rl sister. We live so far apart that we don’t get to see each other much in rl. In here we have lived together, designed together, and had holidays we would have otherwise missed.

What was the hardest thing to learn about designing?
Kurston Brody: How to understand Photoshop tutorials in Paint Shop Pro. I’m cheap and refuse to buy PS. *lol*
What is the best part about being a designer?
Kurston Brody: My fav. part? Learning new stuff. I love creating. Even did some replica costumes for a few parades IRL. Biggest RL issue with designing? I can’t sew a dang thing bigger than a button.
You would not be caught dead where?
Kurston Brody: *shrugs* I don’t get out much as is. *laffs*

If you were a Star Trek character, which one would it be?
Kurston Brody: Maybe a Deana Troi? I tend to be telepathetic. I try to read minds, but I’m kinda sucky at it.
What is the last book you read?
Kurston Brody: Clan of the Cave Bear… again. Currently reading the next in the series. Vally of the Horses. Nothing says sexy like Cave Man mating rituals.
Smarties or M&M’s?
Kurston Brody: Totally M&M’s! Hands down. Fav color? Green. I’m doing a study on if the Urban Legend is really true. Hubby is not happy with the results so far.

Chez Gabrielle is at Urban Shopper
Tucked away on the North-side of Urban Shopper, is this cute brown store that houses dazzling dresses that most of us gals would drool over to have. The name of this fancy little gown store is Chez Gabrielle.
Oh, I’m sure you have heard of Chez Gabrielle and you probably own at least one of the gowns from the designer, Gabrielle Gateaux. Gabrielle has been designing for over three years now and has just recently taken a shop with us at Urban Shopper.

Gabrielle Gateaux: I got started designing because someone came and told me I was ugly, gave me some decent clothes, a nice skin and showed me where to purchase decent hair. He then showed me the basics of making clothing in photoshop. He gave me a shop at his main location to sell the items I made and i’ve been designing ever since. I make items that I want to wear and am always happy that others like them enough to purchase them as well.

Maloney & Hudson
This week, I managed to grab a few words from designer Kitty Hudson, owner of Maloney & Hudson. Kitty has been at Urban Shopper for quite some time now and has participated in, I would say, like almost every event I throw! I actually anticipate her notecard every month on telling me what she has planned to do for our happenings.

Outside of donating money, prizes and gifts at our Urban events, Kitty’s robust brand of male and female clothing is what helps attract people to our plaza. I guarantee that her styles, captures the eye of most fashion genres in SL.
The clothing ranges from your every day ‘girl next-door’ outfit to the blond-bombshell in high-sheen latex. Also, let’s not forget her magnetic lingerie that just does wonders to spunk-up any gals confidence level.

How long have you been designing in SL?
Kitty: Since the beginning of 2007
How long have you been at Urban Shopper?
Kitty: I think its been nearly a year now.

Favorite Urban Shopper Event you participated at?
Kitty: It has to be the birthday bash, what a great party that was. I do try to participate in all the events as they are very popular.
What is the number one thing you love about Second Life?
Kitty: The freedom. I can sit in my office and travel the world in an afternoon.

What is the number one thing you would like to tell new designers?
Kitty: Be patient. It takes a lot of learning and lots of time but its worth it.
What can’t you live without in SL?
Kitty: Shopping. I know it seems shallow but when you have been in SL for a long time its amazing to see how things have changed. I remember life before sculptie shoes!

What is something you wish others would understand about designing?
Kitty: How much work is really involved in creating clothes. People seem to expect everything for free these days.
What was the hardest thing to learn about designing?
Kitty: To have an idea in your head and then to actually get it to fit the avatar mesh template takes the most skill. Anyone can create a basic top but once you start to add detail you soon see what problems are created.
Favorite Designer? (other than yourself)
Kitty: BareRose. It was after I spent many Lindens here that I got my passion for SL clothes.
Anything else you would like to share?
Kitty: Yes if someone had told me in the beginning just how addictive SL is before I joined then my house renovations would be finished by now.

Urban Shopper is doing a big sale this weekend for all residents. To help celebrate the Last Days of Summer, we would love to have you join us for this event.
Event Date: Saturday September 19th to Monday September 21st
* Open to designers outside of Urban Shopper on: Friday, September 18th
** Deadline to be set-up: Friday, September 18th by 11:59pm SLT

Quick Facts: Items you set to sale for this event must be priced from $1L – $50L. You can place three of your items in the display area with your logo/sign. You are allowed a maximum of 5 prims.

Details:
The event will be for 3 days only and you can mark anything down as long as it meets our mature requirements for the sim.
** This sale has a price cap of a maximum of L$50 **
There is a special display area set-up by the main landing point for this event. The display booths have four sides (cube) and designers can showcase their items on one of the sides.
Priority is reserved for Urban Shopper designers until Friday, September 18th, when it opens to all designers of SL.
First come, first serve. So grab your booth fast this Friday!
If you would like to participate in this event, we are requesting the following information:
* Create a notecard and name it: Your name: Last Days of Summer Sale
* Include some pictures of your sale items
* Give us a bit of info about you and your designs

We are tired of cleaning-up all the chewed wads of gum around the Urban Shopper plaza. After having a meeting with all the merchants, we have decided that “gum littering” is a major concern.
Therefore, we are putting some totally cool prizes in the yucky eeewey wads of gum to raise awareness that sticking your gum on our walls is sooo not cool!
